How Persistence and Patience will make you Unstoppable
Two Sides of the Same Coin
If you want success…
if you want momentum…
if you want to meet that goal…
Here are two things to consider:
The vast majority of things worth doing will take both PERSISTENCE and PATIENCE to bring to fruition.
“(They) that can have patience can have what (they) will.” ―Benjamin Franklin
(Come on Ben, why didn't you think of women and the non-binaries?!)
There isn’t a lofty and long winded passage here, we’ll stay short and sweet:
- Persistence (noun): “firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.”
- Patience (also a noun): “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.”
To have anything you want: be it success in your career/business – or getting gas at COSTCO – one must certainly persistent. Look at the definition up there, to be FIRM and OBSTINATE along a present course. I think we all know at this age that success doesn’t come overnight. I remember buying books from Amazon nearly 20 years ago – decades before it became the powerhouse it is today.
I remember training for the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC and how any lofty physical goal takes toil – to put those shoes on day-in and day-out. To go to the Gym even when you do want to.
To show up, every day, to make a difference – that is what Persistence means to me and it’s the backbone of momentum and success.
Those that show up and put in the work – you will eventually get there – I can almost guarantee it!
NOW! On that journey you will stumble, you will fail from time to time. You will hit setbacks, you may lose time and money, you may lose partners (and gain new ones) all along this journey.
It may take you YEARS! Decades even, to reach the level to which you aspire – however when you show up day after day, with a momentum built by your persistence and HAVE THE PATIENCE and wisdom knowing that your actions WILL pay off -
… that you WILL reach the shore or that mountaintop…
Then you have become truly unstoppable. :-)
So today, as all days when I write, I invite you to reflect on your levels of persistence:
Q: How am I showing up to meet that goal?
…and your levels of patience?
Q: How am I handling those setbacks?
Q: How can I strengthen my resolve that it WILL work out?
Thank you for your time today,
Joe
